Food Relief - Tackling food poverty in Lagos
Even before the Covid-19 crisis, thousands went to bed hungry and many people lost their source of income due to the lockdown. Humanity Invest and friends embarked on a food relief project to deliver food items to local communities in Surulere, Mafoluku, Ilasamaja\Mushin and Yaba to help in tackling food poverty. In September 2020, Humanity Invest sourced funds from individual donors in Lagos and the UK. This was used to procure and deliver food items to widows and single mothers living in impoverished communities in Lagos.
Ninety percent of the total amount donated was spent on procurement of food items and associated cost - including packing bags, transportation cost and venue. Over sixty women benefited from the project and additional food packages were donated to the old people's home in Yaba. The remaining ten percent covered the remuneration of the organiser and volunteers in Lagos.
A big thank you to the donors and volunteers for the successful delivery of the project.
